Martha & Mary Health and Rehab Center takes pride in being a comprehensive healthcare leader for seniors in Northwestern Washington. Located on Liberty Bay in scenic downtown Poulsbo, we are the "provider of choice" for families from Kitsap, Jefferson, Mason, Pierce and King Counties. A compassionate professional staff offers an array of specialty services to enhance the vitality of seniors. Our commitment to their healthcare and quality of life has made us what we are today.
Horticulture Program
Part of that commitment includes our Horticulture Therapy program, which is very popular with over 100 residents actively involved. Outdoor boxes and raised beds are planted throughout the campus and tended by residents producing flowers and vegetables for harvest.
With a wheelchair accessible Greenhouse on the campus, indoor gardening includes flower arranging, seed propagation and transplanting of cuttings. Throughout the year residents fill a light cart with new starts for plant sales. A high point of the year is when residents enter their flowers and vegetables at the Kitsap County Fair with many earning First or Second Place ribbons.
This program has become one of the favorites of the local community businesses with support from volunteers. The program boasts an annual Horticulture Calendar which helps fund further gardening activities such as additional garden boxes.
Intergenerational Program
One of our signature programs that we have become well known for nationally is our Intergenerational Program (IGP). With nearly 1,000 kids (infants to school age children) enrolled in the on-site Child Care Centers, Private Kindergarten classes and Before and After School programs at Martha & Mary there are wonderful stories to be told every day about the gifts that both young and old bring into our lives. Residents and children interact through games, art projects, storytelling, and parties. "Grandmas" and "Grandpas" can also be seen rocking the infants in oversized rocking chairs.
The Intergenerational program adds tremendously to the family environment at Martha & Mary. Staff not only get a 35% discount on the Child Care services when they work for us, but they can also stop by and see their little loved one while he or she is visiting the Health Center for IGP.
Pet Therapy
Pets are a welcome attraction here and an important part of the quality of life with over 50 registered animal visitors! Animals also live here such as "Buddy" (Double Yellow Headed Parrot, assorted fish in large tanks throughout the campus and several parakeets in addition to large aviaries full of active and entertaining finches and canaries. Pets also visit regularly from the Kitsap Humane Society.
Art Classes
Our Artists on the Campus program is a painting class that takes place every week as residents work on their portraits and paintings. Some residents come to this program as accomplished artists while others are discovering the joy of this hobby for the first time. Either way, everyone is welcome. Thanks to dedicated volunteers in conjunction with our Activities staff, works of art are on display and available for purchase throughout the building in both oils and watercolors.
Bus Outings
Being a resident at Martha & Mary doesn't mean that you won't be on the go anymore. With our wheelchair equipped 20-passenger bus and several volunteer drivers, we have outings every week. Sometimes we just see the sights and just follow the road where it takes us. At other times we are destined for places like the Kitsap County Fair, Olympic Game Farm, fishing at a Trout Pond, Christmas shopping, Festival of Trees, viewing Christmas lights or "lunching" on the ferry and at local churches.
Please call (360) 394-4021 if you would like more information about this program or any of our other programs. We have a 7-day calendar of events filled with popular programs such as live entertainment, gardening, church, games, trivia, painting, crafts, etc.
