2009 Generations Luncheon Presented by Kitsap Bank
Wednesday, 25 February 2009

Kitsap BankIt’s not too soon to start thinking about the 2009 Generations Luncheon and Silent Auction.  Kitsap Bank did.  They not only thought about it, but they signed on as the Presenting Sponsor for the 2009 event which will be held at the Kiana Lodge on Sunday, March 22, 2009.

“We are thrilled to receive such generous support from Kitsap Bank.” said Chad Solvie, CEO. “The leadership and vision the bank provides in our community by supporting local not-for-profit organizations goes a long way toward enriching the lives of those in need.”

The Generations Luncheon and Silent Auction is the largest special event fundraiser held by Martha & Mary each spring to help raise much needed resources to support special programming throughout the organization.

The event is instrumental in leveraging additional funds to help care for the nearly 2,000 children and seniors served each year.  With an average of 40% of all children and 75% of all seniors served qualifying for assistance, Martha & Mary relies on community support to offset the growing amount of uncompensated care offered each year.

“Martha & Mary has met the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of Kitsap County families for over one hundred years.  Their dedication to our residents has enriched our community, setting a high standard for care of our young and old” said Helen Langer Smith, Chairman of the Board, Kitsap Bank.  “Like Martha and Mary, Kitsap Bank is very proud to have served this community for nearly a century, and we are pleased to support such a worthy organization in their quest to provide a caring, family environment for our friends, family, and neighbors.”

Joe Piscatella to Keynote at the 8th Annual Generations Luncheon

Joe is one of the nation’s foremost experts on the relationship of lifestyle habits to health, longevity and quality of life.  It would be great if his appreciation for a healthy lifestyle were the result of native intelligence.  Unfortunately, that’s not the case.  It took coronary bypass surgery in 1977 at age 32 for Joe to arrive at a “teachable moment,” to understand the health impact of his lifestyle choices.  Since that time he has tried to live a healthy lifestyle and it’s worked.  He recently celebrated the 31st anniversary of that surgery.

During the past two decades Joe has created “teachable moments” for others, practical advice on living a healthy lifestyle in the real world.  His work includes ten best-selling books that are used by 5500 hospitals in cardiac rehabilitation and wellness programs.  The books have sold 7.5 million copies.  His newest books are Take A Load Off Your Heart, a cutting-edge book on stress, and The Road to a Healthy Heart Runs Through the Kitchen, straight information on a healthy diet.

As a spokesman for a healthy lifestyle, Joe is regularly interviewed on The Today Show, CNN, Good Morning America and Fox News.  He has hosted three PBS television specials including Take A Load Off Your Heart, which is currently airing nationally.  A program on children’s health based upon his book, Fat Proof Your Child, is in pre-production.

Joe has served as the only non-medical member of the National Institutes of Health Cardiac Rehabilitation Expert Panel charged with developing clinical practice guidelines for physicians.

Joe speaks to Fortune 1000 companies, medical organizations and professional associations. Over 2 million people have attended his programs.  He consults to a number of groups (Starbucks, the Federal Reserve Bank, Exxon, Boeing, and Sprint) on employee fitness, and designs and implements community health initiatives.  His program in Holland, Michigan, resulted in 650 people losing 4200 pounds in 12 weeks...with 70% reporting compliance after three years.

His talks are successful because they put a human face of the practical science of healthy living.  Cited in Time for effectiveness, Joe uses humor and an upbeat presentation style to examine healthy eating, effective exercise and stress management.  Attendees receive information and take-home tools, and Joe motivates them to put the message to work.
