To be human means that losses are a part of life, and healing takes place as you learn and understand the grief process. At Martha & Mary we understand the experience of losing a loved one is unlike any other event in your life. A host of emotions can surface: anger, fear, despair, and loneliness. At times, each one of these emotions may seem overwhelming. However, when you lose a significant loved one, you must be an active participant in your own healing to move beyond the grasp of these emotions. You may ask yourself, “How do I best cope?” In 2008, there will be two separate opportunities to attend one of our grief support groups. The first one will take place beginning Tuesday, March 4th, at 5:30 pm, in our care center. The second opportunity will take place beginning on Tuesday, September 2nd, at 5:30 pm, also to be held in our care center. Both groups will meet for ninety minutes each, and utilize a closed format in which participates are asked to begin with Week One and follow through in attending each successive meeting, which will continue to build in content so that at the end of the twelve week program participants may gain a sense of better understanding of their feelings, be better equipped to deal with them, and gain a sense of renewed control to re-engage with daily life. There is a nominal fee of $25.00 that includes two workbooks which give necessary structure to grief work. The groups will be co-facilitated by Ernie McCluskey, Chaplain and Board certified grief and bereavement educator, and Heather Trent, Licensed Social Worker at Martha & Mary.
