Martha & Mary Health Services takes pride in being a comprehensive healthcare leader for seniors in Northwestern Washington. Located on Liberty Bay in scenic downtown Poulsbo, we are the "provider of choice" for families from Kitsap, Jefferson, Mason, Pierce, and King Counties. A compassionate professional staff offers an array of specialty services to enhance the vitality of seniors. Our commitment to their healthcare and quality of life has made us what we are today.
Part of that commitment includes our Horticulture Therapy program, which is very popular with over 100 residents actively involved. Outdoor boxes and raised beds are planted throughout the campus and tended by residents producing flowers and vegetables for harvest. Over 100 pounds of vegetables are donated annually to the local food bank, Fishline, in coordination with the national Plant A Row For The Hungry program. Did we mention the new Greenhouse addition? it's wonderful - you'll want to check it out. Indoor gardening includes flower arranging, seed propagation and transplanting of cuttings. Throughout the year residents fill a light cart with new starts for plant sales. A high point of the year is when residents enter their flowers and vegetables at the Kitsap County Fair with many earning First or Second Place ribbons. This program has become one of the favorites of the local community businesses with support from volunteers. The program boasts an annual Community Garden Tour and a Horticulture Calendar - all of which help fund further gardening activities such as additional garden boxes and a wheelchair accessible greenhouse. Please call and ask to speak with our Director of Activities at (360) 394-4021 if you would like more information about this program or any of our other 7-day calendars of events filled with popular programs such as live entertainment, church, games, trivia, painting, crafts, theme weeks, bus trips, men's pancake breakfasts, ladies tea, or cooking. |
