Martha & Mary’s Volunteer Auxiliary, which supports programs and services for seniors and their families, was honored with the organization’s 2015 Philanthropy Award at the annual
donor appreciation event in November.

More than 400 volunteers support Martha & Mary each year, helping us better serve our community. They extend the reach of our staff by assist- ing with resident activities, especially horticulture, art, and woodworking, helping keep campus grounds well- groomed, providing friendly visits, which often include dogs, cats, and even mini-horses, working in the Gift Shop, and so much more.

The Volunteer Auxiliary focuses on fund raising as well as service. In the last 20 years, it has funded an amazing variety of equipment, supplies, and projects that enhance the quality of life of the residents and children in Martha & Mary’s care, including blanket warming machines, nursing carts, garden furniture, artwork and, most recently, a commercial grade refrigerator for the newly remodeled gift shop at the Health and Rehab Center in Poulsbo. Auxiliary members take great pleasure and pride in supporting Martha & Mary financially and raise about $9,000 a year through numerous fundraising events.

Martha & Mary, a not for profit 501 (c) (3) organization, relies on volunteers daily. “We are deeply grateful to the community members that serve as volunteers with us,” said Chad Solvie, CEO, in recognizing the award recipients. “Volunteers give more than 17,000 hours of service to us each year, as well as fund needed items that simply don’t fit into our budget. We honestly could not meet our mission of caring without our outstanding team of volunteers.”

2015 Martha & Mary Philanthropy Award presented to the Volunteer Auxiliary, accepted by Jane Everson, treasurer, Margo Bouchillon, member, Tracie Walthall, Resident Life Services Director at Martha & Mary, Carol LaGrandeur, member, Chad Solvie, Martha & Mary CEO, Jeri Tucker, member, and Flo Kempton, secretary.

In 2016, Martha & Mary will celebrate 125 years of caring for children, seniors and families in the West Sound. Donors like the Volunteer Auxiliary provide critical support that sustains Martha & Mary’s commitment to excellent in senior health care and housing, rehab, at-home care, and early childhood education.
