Martha & Mary to Host 125th Anniversary Open House and Art Show
September 2, 2016
In celebration of their 125 years of caring, Martha & Mary will welcome the community into their Health and Rehab Center in downtown Poulsbo for an Open House and Art Show on Saturday, September 10 at 5:00pm – 8:00pm.
The event will feature art exhibits created by seniors and children cared for by the non-profit, including paintings, drawings, a wide variety of crafts, 3D design and even poetry. Visitors will also have the opportunity to view the organization’s permanent art collection and see works created by visiting artist Susan Ogilvie who specializes in iconography. Additionally, guests will get a chance to see Martha & Mary’s robust therapeutic art program for senior residents in-action and learn about their newest quality of life program called Music & Memory, which engages individuals suffering from dementia.
Poulsbo Mayor Becky Erickson is expected to attend the celebration and to read a recent Proclamation made by the City of Poulsbo honoring Martha & Mary’s long time service to the community. A Congressional Record document reflecting a recent tribute to the organization made by U.S. Representative Derek Kilmer to the 114th Congress of the United States will also be on display.
“We are so pleased to open our doors and invite in our community to celebrate our 125th anniversary with us,” said Paula Rimmer, Martha & Mary’s Director of Development. “We are eager to display the artistic talents of our seniors and children and showcase the ways that Martha & Mary is a vibrant place to live and receive care — a place where people are encouraged to express themselves in creative ways at any age and every stage of life.”
The organization’s 125th Anniversary Open House and Art Show is a free event, open to the public, and occurring in conjunction with Poulsbo’s “2nd Saturday” Art Walk. The festivities will include light refreshments and music by the Kitsap Chordsmen’s lively quartet Daydream.
