| Born with the heart of a caregiver, Olivia was a natural for Martha & Mary At Home. |
| Olivia’s journey to caregiving began as a special education teacher. Instinctively, Olivia found the right words and actions that brought out the best in her students. In her words, “I saw them as real people who needed my nurturing and care. I knew I was making a difference!”
As her parents aged, Olivia turned to Martha & Mary AT HOME. Our home care aides cared for her mom, and later, her dad, providing respite, peace of mind and loving companionship. Her firsthand experience of the enormous difference caregiving made in her own life led Olivia to become a professional caregiver. She completed her Home Care Aide certification and joined Martha & Mary AT HOME. “It’s kind of magical,” says Olivia. “I get to know my clients and their families well, and they become an extension of my friends and family.” She thoughtfully plans activities she knows her clients enjoy – watching movies, listening to audio books, going on outings to Meals on Wheels, helping with physical therapy exercises, and providing heartfelt companionship. “I make a difference – a positive difference — in people’s lives. There is this bond of caring and love that forms between my clients and me, and I know my being there helps. It’s such a good feeling and so rewarding.” |
